In His Own Words-Dave Boliek, State Auditor of North Carolina

“I am Dave Boliek and I am just getting started!”

The most impactful, insightful, and amazing remarks given at the LRD Dinner were from State Auditor Dave Boliek. Who knew that the Office of the Auditor could be so impactful?  Mr Boliek informed us that through auditing the finances of our public organizations, he could discern the policy and practices of our public institutions and their intentions about serving the people of North Carolina and the stewardship of funds entrusted to them. With examples ranging from the $45 million over budget shenanigans of a school district to the DMV and Hurricane relief-he demonstrated how our public institutions can be held accountable. His audit of the Charlotte Transit System demonstrated how public funds were squandered on 180 unarmed “safety” employees that had to be DEI qualified in order to protect the transit passengers. We now know how that worked out and changes are being made. Auditor Boliek concluded his remarks with the observation that “The most important asset of North Carolinians is Trust. There is a fraying of trust in big cities and our Society cannot afford to lose Trust in our government.”.
